WHAT TO EXPECT:
Expect for this to be a night of people sharing there truth. Because this is poetry, content can often have mature themes.
This event has two phases. You can choose to only go in the beginning and leave at 7 PM if you need to get home earlier.

There will be a Girls Inc staff present to assist and monitor. You will receive the info of your Girls Inc staff the week before the event.
There will be snacks provided by Girls Inc. but no formal dinner. If you are at all concerned about food, please bring some extra snacks so you can relax and enjoy yourself.
5:30 to 6:45 PM
It will begin with a slam poetry workshop just for the Eurekans where you will learn how to write slam poetry and also perform it for each other.
6:45 to 9:00 PM
You will then have the chance to go to Slamlandia and hear slam poetry written by youth of all genders.

Because this is poetry written by the youth about there experiences, content can often have mature themes. Please keep this in mind and make sure that is something you want for your youth.
This is a youth focused event. Expect to drop off your youth and come back to pick them up when the event is done.
The event is in downtown Portland in an area where there in many one way & train lines and very little parking. Expect to drop your youth off and either drive to another part of downtown to park or find the nearest parking garage.
